Purchasing a laptop

To ensure the best value for money, parents/carers are encouraged to research laptops and other items (please see minimum specifications and required items for the BYOD Program) across a wide range vendors and retailers to obtain quotes  to ensure that the best possible price can be negotiated.

A low-cost laptop may not always be best option over the long term.

N.B. Google Chromebooks are not compatible with our system.

It is important to consider the "total costs of ownership" including warranty, technical support arrangements and components. Ensure that the device is suitable for use in a school BYOD program, rather than for home or business office use.

All issues with laptop purchases or technical issues need to be taken up with the vendor, not the College or the P&C.

College BYOD equity program

A limited number of College owned laptops are available in the College BYOD Equity Program for families who are not able to provide a BYOD laptop for their Year 7-12 student due to financial hardship.

Students who have chosen to enrol in Academic Achievers or Music Excellence programs are not eligible for the Equity Program.

Application for consideration for this program is through Sub-School Principal, and further information may be required to be provided on request.

Daily arrangements for borrowing Equity Program laptops are as per the Daily Borrowing program below.

Daily borrowing program

Students will be advised through daily notices and by email when the daily program commences, which is usually from Week 2 in Term 1.

A limited number of College owned laptops are available on a "first in" basis for Year 6 -12 students to borrow each day if they have an issue with their own BYOD laptop or while the student's BYOD laptop is being repaired or replaced. There is no charge for this program.

Year 6 -12 students needing to borrow a "daily borrowing" laptop can do so from the IT Help desk in the Library at the following times:

  • 8:30 am to 8:40 am
  • the first 10 minutes of each lesson (with teacher permission note only)
  • during morning tea and lunch breaks

These laptops must not be taken home, and must be returned after the end of the student's final lesson each day.
