The Earnshaw State College drama club has been in existence since 2015. It is an afterschool group which meets every Tuesday from 3.00 pm until 4.00 p.m. Throughout the year, students engage in two main activities:
The Queensland Youth Theatresports competition occurs annually and involves groups of students from different schools engaging in improvisational games in front of a live audience (much in the style of the popular television programme, ‘Whose Line is it Anyway?’). In the first half of the year, the drama club spends afternoons training for this competition.
In second semester, the drama club focuses on rehearsing for the end of year performance. In previous years, the students have performed Debra Oswald’s ‘Dags’ and David Rimmer’s ‘New York’. Parents, teachers and community members are invited to attend the performance and the students are able to demonstrate all of the performance skills which they have developed throughout the year.
