The violin program being introduced to Year 2 students is designed to be fun, interactive and engaging. This is an exciting and new program at Earnshaw State College being implemented this year with Mrs Dolan.

Learning an instrument has many benefits beyond simply playing. It has been proven to stimulate and strengthen brain function (i.e. visual, auditory and fine and gross motor skills) through structured practice. There have also been
many links between learning an instrument and increased academic results. Further reading can be seen at https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2019/06/b‐c‐students‐who‐took‐music‐classes‐scored‐higher‐thanpeers‐in‐math‐science‐and‐english‐study/. There has also been some very successful Australian research

conducted by Anita Collins. She created a Ted talk about the benefits of learning an instrument. This can be viewed at https://youtu.be/R0JKCYZ8hng.
