Swimming carnival champions

The first inter-house event for 2016 was the swimming carnival for the nine years to open age group.

Across two days, students displayed their talent in the pool, as well as demonstrating passion, dedication to their house, and support of their friends.

Although the weather had deteriorated, this did not stop students from signing up to compete. A record number of students entered the pool this year, even for participation events.

This year’s winner is Rafter with 1985 points, followed by Bradman in second place on 1736, and last but not least, O’Neill on 1570 points. Although O’Neill finished in last place, they were able to secure eight age champions across the nine years to open age groups.

Age champions are as follows:

9 years: Ella Sheahan (R), Riley Svensson (R)
10 years: Lily Darben (O), Cooper Sutherland (R)
11 years: Madeline Sheahan (R), Jacob Herbert (B)
12 years: Zoe Paton (R), Luke Greathead (O)
13 years: Tanesha Turner (B), Nicholas Bunic (O)
14 years: Tabitha Clinton (B), Finn Dwyer (O)
15 years: Aliesha Crabbe (O), David Greathead (O)
16 years: Jade Michalski (R), Kurt Somerville (B)
17 years: Amiteosi Fisiihoi (B), Jackson Crabbe (O)

R=Rafter, O=O'Neill, B=Bradman

The swimming carnival has set a standard for future competitions this year and it was great to see passion, participation and students having fun.

A special mention goes to the Year 12 Recreation Studies students who helped set up, run events and pack up on both days; along with the HPE and other college staff who were involved on the days.
